2011 World Hunger and Poverty Facts and Statistics by World Hunger Education Service: "Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) is the most lethal form of malnutrition/hunger. It is basically a lack of calories and protein. Food is converted into energy by humans, and the energy contained in food is measured by calories. Protein is necessary for key body functions including provision of essential amino acids and development and maintenance of muscles.

Basic Facts About the MDGs
Basic Facts About the MDGs: "set to be achieved by 2015, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) provide concrete, numerical benchmarks for tackling extreme poverty in its many dimensions.
The MDGs also provide a framework for the entire international community to work together towards a common end making sure that human development reaches everyone, everywhere. If these goals are achieved, world poverty will be cut by half, tens of millions of lives will be saved"

In The Beginning
In The Beginning: "physics deals with the areas of energy as well as matter. The single scientist who had the greatest impact on the Science of Physics would most certainly be Albert Einstein.
His well known (even if poorly understood) theory of Relativity is often incorrectly stated as E=mc2. My hope is that the theory is rembered this way be cause our keyboards and fonts do not allow to put the little number two above the c.
E (energy)= m (the mass of the given object) times c (a constant which is the speed of light, which is 186,000 miles per second) squared (this huge number is multiplied times itself).
In other words the Energy which is contained within a given object (say a teaspoon) is equal to its weight given in grams times 186,000 x 186,000. Sound like a big number? Yes!"

Texas Agriculture Talks | Are food extremists the New Luddites?: "The most extreme of modern Luddites was Ted Kaczynski, the infamous Unabomber. Other notable Luddites include the extreme environmental and animal rights groups that burn subdivisions and laboratories.
But Luddism has a less extreme, though just as destructive, face. This includes the people who just stop their collective feet and shout, “No!” to every agricultural advance that science can produce.
I keep thinking about those more than 9 billion people that will inhabit Planet Earth just four decades from right now."

A Political Mugging in God’s Own Country: "I was also saddened to learn that the father of the Green Revolution, Norman Borlaug, died last week.
Borlaug decades long passion for tackling starvation has been matched by that of Professor Mary Abukutsa-Onyango. He, like Professor Abukutsa-Onyango, was a plant scientist. He had seen the Misissippi Dustbowl which many believed was caused through technological farming. Iran Steps Up Incitement Against Israel « Commentary Magazine
Everyone knows that politicians, world leaders, dictators and despots never lie.
Aharon Moshe Sanders, June 15, 2011 5:25pm EST- (AhMbDvd)
Iran Steps Up Incitement Against Israel « Commentary Magazine: "continues to compile evidence of Iran’s intent to build a nuclear weapon, the leader of that country is stepping up incitement against the intended target of that program: Israel. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad used the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to launch a tirade against Zionism as well as the West.

Iran Steps Up Incitement Against Israel
Jonathan S. Tobin 06.15.2011 - 9:45 AM
The SCO is a creation of Russia and China who have attempted to use it as a counter-force to NATO. In addition to Ahmadinejad, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, India, Pakistan and Mongolia attended the meeting of the group in Astana, Kazakhstan."
The author Jonathan S. Tobin:
CommentaryMagazine.com
Over the course of his career, he has won more than 50 journalism awards for commentary, editorial writing, and arts criticism. He has been named the top columnist and editorial writer for Jewish newspapers in North America several times, as well as the top weekly columnist and editorial writer in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. In 2006, he received the unique distinction of being named both the best editorial columnist and the best arts critic in Philadelphia by the Society of Professional Journalists.
The Article, By Jonathan S. Tobin, From Comentary Magazine continues:
In his speech, Ahmadinejad blasted 60 years of Zionism as well as the United States and the West whom he blamed for most of the world’s ills. Ironically, among his litany of American sins was its use of the first atomic weapons that ended the Second World War....
The Article points a finger at part of the problem regarding the media's ability to seemingly downplay the importance of the the potential threat of Iran's clear attempt to develop nuclear weapons by pointing to a recent article from another author of well known and respected newspapers based in New York:
Ahmadinejad is hoping those Western apologists for his country will ultimately prevent concerted action to stop it from obtaining nukes. The most prominent of those apologists, the New York Times’s Roger Cohen, wrote earlier this week to say all the evidence about Iran’s nuclear program should be ignored because the Iranians are too incompetent to actually build a bomb.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/14/opinion/14iht-edcohen14.html?_r=1&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
Interesting to note that the New York Times’s Roger Cohen, refers to Iran's advanced state of Uranium enrichment close to weapons grade (which is well documented in the literature) as — as the Godot of nuclear threats. Personally, I believe anyone who would have actually paid money to ever see that production staged, might even be more foolish then some of the Op Ed writers for the New York Times.
Waiting for Godot
by Samuel Beckett
name="allowscriptaccess" value="always">
My familiarity with the play and its original opening had to do with my choice of a nice easy way to satisfy the Humanities requirement at Santa Monica College, by taking a class called Theater of the Absurd. If I recall correctly the original opening was a notorious flop, because the expected dramatic action simply never happened.
They have apparently known each other for years. Once perhaps respectable, they are now homeless, debilitated, and often suicidal. They wonder out loud why they did not kill themselves years ago; they consider the possibility of doing it today. They are waiting for someone they call “Godot”. While they wait, they share conversation, food, and memories.Enotes.com/Waiting-For-Godot
I suppose its quite revealing that Roger Cohen;
"OP-ED COLUMNISTROGER COHEN [ In His article ]
Published: June 13, 2011
Iran Without Nukes
LONDON — Remember Iran?"
chose to display Iran is this manner (Godot). Perhaps he is calling on Iran to finally reveal their true intentions by insulting them, and displaying them as a couple of bumbling Hobos incapable of doing a single thing on their own, without this person called Godot.
We could also, by the same effort read too deeply into Roger Cohen's words and finally realize that the real danger is the current, "Global-lets just pretend its not happening policy" regarding Iran's Uranium enrichment program.
I suppose in a world where one can actually come face to face with some who will tell you (without even blinking) that the Holocaust never happened (as I did during my community college days) , that one could simply take on the attitude of an ostrich and simply choose to bury their head in the sand.
After all is was not so long ago that the US was very much against Iran. For the very same reasons. Iran has not changed their objectives and seeking to establish some sort of legitimate basis for its nuclear enrichment program.
The key is the fact that Iran is clever enough to predict the follow up question which is why spend so much money on producing nuclear energy when the country has plenty of oil. If Iran told us they were "going green" the entire world would just laugh in their faces. Why would China and Russia want to throw in their cards with Iran. well thats an entirely another topic.
In the meantime, if we ascribe depth and insight, perhaps where it clearly does not merit an application, we could re-interpret what Roger Cohen may be really trying to tell us:
...Iran, epicenter of inefficiency, unable to produce a kilowatt of electricity through its Bushehr nuclear reactor despite decades of effort..."

House On Fire: Thoughts on Saving the World: CHILD HUNGER -- THE SCOURGE OF THE PLANET: "What do you do if your child says to you 'I'm hungry'?
Or, if you don't have a child, what do you recall happening when you said this when you were a kid?
In most cases, I'd assume, Mum/Dad arranged a snack -- or advised you to get it yourself.
Well, guess what: For a lot of kids, food is a luxury. And I'm not even talking about the Third World nations that the 'developed world' has so callously exploited and plundered.
Right here in the United States we have our own Third World. I'm not kidding. The distribution of wealth is that criminal -- and has been from Day 1. An alarming number of kids are regularly without enough food. I've read varying reports but I think you'd be pretty safe in saying that something like one in four kids goes to bed hungry at night in America."

The need for power and control has led the world to the chaos it is in now. Wars are being fought all across the globe to the point where people forget why they were started in the first place. President George W Bush daubed the war his country is currently engaged in as the ‘war on terror’. Osama bin Laden is fighting a holy Jihad. One would be forgiven for thinking these guys were fighting separate wars. The Iraqi rebels would undoubtedly have their own name for the mayhem.
In the tiny country of Sierra Leone, West Africa, a decade long brutal civil war, in which innocent citizens had their limbs hacked off by so-called rebels intoxicated with drugs was fought on the premise that the rebels wanted to liberate the country from the hands of a corrupt regime. Poverty, A Denial of Human Rights | Hunger Season: "Although most people are aware of poverty, to read this book is to become more acutely aware of the economic and social injustices affecting the lives of billions of people living in poverty.
The author makes the strong case that defining poverty only through income levels has led people to the conclusion that raising income levels will solve the poverty problem. She cites examples of national income rising in countries, but still the inequalities and poverty persist. Economic growth in many countries has not ended the marginalization, discrimination and exclusion of various groups of people such as poor people, ethnic groups, religious groups and wome"

3 Main Reasons for Poverty in Africa | Hunger Season
3 Main Reasons for Poverty in Africa | Hunger Season: "The first reason for Africa’s poverty lies in its history and the mindset which this has created both inside and outside its borders. For 3 centuries, the continent was emptied of millions of its strongest people, captured to work as slaves overseas in order to develop other economies. This had the arguable effect of delaying the establishment of economical, political and social structures that might have been comparable with those found elsewhere in the world.
The abolition of slavery opened the door to colonialism, which, while in one sense only a different form of slavery, did bring much-needed benefits such as industrial development, better education and access to medical care. However the colonising Europeans, by means particularly of the bias of the education they provided, groomed Africans to be servants and consumers in a world where white men were the overlords."

israel and middle east
israel and middle east: "Abraham had two sons: Ishmael and Isaac. (Read Torah: Genesis Chapters 16, 17, 21, and 22.) Ishmael was Abraham’s son by his Egyptian maid, Hagar. Ishmael became the 'father' of the Arab nations; he was the son 'of the flesh', not the son which G-d had promised to Abraham. Isaac was the 'son of the promise', but Ishmael was the result of Abraham trying to 'help G-d out' - trying to help G-d keep His word. Have you ever tried to do this? Have you ever acted too quickly instead of waiting with patience for the promise of G-d to come to pass?
In Genesis 21:12, G-d said unto Abraham, 'in Isaac shall your seed be called.' Through the line of Isaac the promised 'seed' would come who would bless the world. Isaac had twin sons named Esau and Jacob. Even though Jacob was the younger, he inherited the blessing, or 'birthright', form his father Isaac (Torah: Bereshith / Genesis 25:19-34).
Jacob’s name was changed to Israel one time after he had wrestled with an angel of G-d all night (Torah: Genesis Chapter 32). The name 'Jacob' means 'heel catcher' or 'supplanter' (one who displaces, as he did to his brother Esau in regard to the birthright)."

Jacob’s name was changed to Israel one time after he had wrestled with an angel of G-d all night (Torah: Genesis Chapter 32). The name 'Jacob' means 'heel catcher' or 'supplanter' (one who displaces, as he did to his brother Esau in regard to the birthright)."
israel and middle east
israel and middle east: "Men wage war, but God wages eternal justice. The real reason behind the war in Iraq – unknown to men – is for clearing the way to rebuild Babylon: NEW BABYLON.
Babylon, in the land of Shinar, was the headquarters of the first world autocrat. His name was “Nimrod.” Scripture, in the original Hebrew language, and also supported by rabbis, shows that Nimrod was “a mighty hunter against or in opposition to the LORD.”
Just as Babylon was the headquarters for the first world dictator, so the NEW BABYLON will be the headquarters of the FINAL world dictator, a despot and worse than tyrant. He will be chosen by the New World Order (or whatever name the organization ascribes to itself at that time). He will be the FALSE messiah and the greatest enemy that Israel and the Jewish People have ever known."

UPS Throws a 1000 Lbs Overboard to Lighten the Load : Discovery News: "uel efficiency is not far from anyone’s mind. Hybrid Vehicles are becoming more and more popular and companies are finding ways of squeezing more energy out of the existing systems. This is especially the case for shipping and delivery businesses, such as UPS, whose costs are fundamentally linked to transportation.
The company has previously flirted with the idea of hybrid vehicles, but now it has taken a drastic step in a different direction. It announced a new fleet of vehicles called CV-23s that are designed to be 1,000 pounds lighter and 40 percent more fuel efficient than their older models. The dramatic decrease in weight was possible by using composite panels for the body instead of steel."

The first Millennium Development Goal aims to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger by reducing by half the proportion of people living on less than $1.25 a day, by achieving full and productive employment for all, including women and young people, and by reducing by half the proportion of people who suffer from hunger. A review of progress made on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) since their inception (2000) that was completed before the recent United Nation’s Summit quotes UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon: “It is clear that improvements in the lives of the poor have been unacceptably slow, and some hard-won gains are being eroded by the climate, food and economic crises.”"

Bibi Warns Protesters Planning New Border Breach | The Jewish Week: "Palestinian protesters planning to breach Israel's borders again will be halted, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu, speaking Thursday evening at a conference in Jerusalem, said Syria and Iran and the Hezbollah and Hamas terrorist groups are behind the planned mass protests planned for Sunday.
'Like any country in the world, Israel has the right and duty to guard and defend its borders,' he said. 'Therefore my instructions are clear: to act with restraint, but with the necessary decisiveness to protect our borders, our communities and our citizens.'"

Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger is one of the Millennium Development Goals
Clive Shirley/WFP
The world's rich nations need to provide US$7 billion a year for the next decade to support research and development (R&D) relevant to the needs of developing countries, if they are serious about meeting a pledge to end extreme poverty by 2015.
This is among the recommendations contained in the draft of a summary report of the UN Millennium Project, an initiative carried out by an influential group of scientists, economists and public policy specialists convened by UN secretary general Kofi Annan."
UNICEF - Goal: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
UNICEF - Goal: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger: "Reducing poverty starts with children.
More than 30 per cent of children in developing countries – about 600 million – live on less than US $1 a day.
Every 3.6 seconds one person dies of starvation. Usually it is a child under the age of 5.
Poverty hits children hardest. While a severe lack of goods and services hurts every human, it is most threatening to children’s rights: survival, health and nutrition, education, participation, and protection from harm and exploitation. It creates an environment that is damaging to children’s development in every way – mental, physical, emotional and spiritual.
One than 1 billion children are severely deprived of at least one of the essential goods and services they require to survive, grow and develop. Some regions of the world have more dire situations than others, but even within one country there can be broad disparities – between city and rural children, for example, or between boys and girls. An influx or tourism in one area may improve a country’s poverty statistics overall, while the majority remains poor and disenfranchised."

One Accord Food Pantry Inc
One Accord Food Pantry Inc: "Started in 1989 in upstate New York, the food pantry began by feeding just 2 families who were sent to us by the local school district.
Word quickly spread, and within 4 years, the number of families had grown to 6,000 (or about 40,000 people per year, half of whom were children) and we were providing about 1.5 million pounds of food annually for their needs. Our catchment area also grew to 8 counties and 2 states, and we also shared excess food with other food pantries and soup kitchens."
Editors Note: Great Cause just met the founder of this website on Facebook! Also the creator of this blog recognizes that world-wide poverty and hunger is a world-wide issue. The United Sates as a nation should be taking a lead roll due to its greats wealth of farmland. The story above demonstrates how much good even a "small project" initiated by an individual can do.
Imagine what could be done for this important cause if our current President in the United States could focus his efforts on this cause instead of being consumed with establishing an almost impossible to preserve Peace Process, in the nation of Israel which would achieve it's "defense/peace" in a much more efficient manner with out the US insisting on it's constant meddling in its affairs.-AhMbDvd

In California, Efforts to Ban Circumcision Gain Momentum - NYTimes.com
In California, Efforts to Ban Circumcision Gain Momentum - NYTimes.com: "SANTA MONICA, Calif. — When a group of activists proposed banning circumcision in San Francisco last fall, many people simply brushed them aside. Even in that liberal seaside city, it seemed implausible that thousands of people would support an effort to outlaw an ancient ritual that Jews and Muslims believe fulfills a commandment issued by God.

But last month, the group collected the more than 7,100 signatures needed to get a measure on the fall ballot that would make it illegal to snip the foreskin of a minor within city limits. Now a similar effort is under way in Santa Monica to get such a measure on the ballot for November 2012."

EPA data show dispersants plus oil are more toxic than either alone

Richard Denison, Ph.D., is a Senior Scientist.
In an earlier post, I noted in haste some apparent discrepancies between EPA and BP acute toxicity data on the Corexit® dispersants. Little did I realize that the data mixup was actually telling me something much more significant: that the dispersant maker’s own test data demonstrate that the combination of oil plus dispersant is quite a bit more toxic than the dispersant alone and – even more significant – the combination is more acutely toxic than the oil by itself.
Let me repeat that: The data indicate that dispersed oil is more toxic than undispersed oil. EPA has posted the dispersant manufacturer Nalco’s “Technical Product Bulletins” for each of the dispersants that have been used in the Gulf: Corexit® EC9527A and Corexit® EC9500A."

The Philippines on MDGs: Goals 1 and 2 Likely To Be Missed - TH!NK ABOUT IT: "QUEZON CITY, Philippines - The Philippines is racing against time. It is struggling to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by 2015. Of the eight goals, the government is unlikely to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger and achieve universal education, MDG goals 1 and 2, respectively, based on statistics and indicators as of February 2010.

The holocaust, an event that was used to justify the creation is Israel, and is continually used to justify the crimes of Israel, never happened. There is NO concrete proof for the homocidal intent of any of the Nazi concentration camps.

Goal 1: "1.7 Proportion of own-account and contributing family workers in total employment
Target 1c: Reduce by half the proportion of people who suffer from hunger
1.8 Prevalence of underweight children under-five years of age
1.9 Proportion of population below minimum level of dietary energy consumption
